Holidays

We have a straight concrete path from the street to the house, and keep a tub of chalk by the front door for those times when we feel like doodling or writing a message on it. This week it was a message to greet the kids when they came home from their dad’s place.

Red door 5 October, 2008

Red door

We finally finished the third coat of paint on the front door, so our door-lizard has returned to his rightful place.

We chose this red (Dulux Red Box) many months ago, and then when our dear friends Rob & Amy moved into their new place, they painted their front door the same colour! They had no idea we were using red at all, so for us to choose the same shade out of the hundreds of paint chips available is bizarre, to say the least.

I’ve hurt my left shoulder. I don’t have any appetite. I can’t jump up to watch the fish. I suspect the boys won’t be giving me any rest either. So where’s the doc? What does a lady have to do to get some medical attention around here?

It’s still going. They’re shouting like crazy in the background. Playing wii. The theme of the party: Hard to determine whether it’s “Wii” or “tiny”. People here: 8 of Pol’s friends. OH!! Now they’re arguing. “DON’T PRESS ANYTHING!!” Now they’re playing something else.

Ok. New post. About stuff. Not much has been happening, really. Woke up, watched some weird Top Gear/Doctor Who thing, played wii with Polendino, (whose party happens to be today) Fed Opal and then sat down to write this. Not much else happened.

Polaroid frames 21 June, 2008

My friend George in San Francisco sent us a whole pack of “used” Polaroid film. Ten whole shots. We had a long skinny piece of wall we wanted to hang them on, but couldn’t quite work out how to do it. But then I found these frames at Ikea. They fit two Polaroid prints back-to-back in each of the five frames.

So we have all ten of George’s gorgeous prints hanging together, and we rotate the frames every now and then to display the picture on the other side.

We also have two new Polaroid diptychs for our walls… this one from Ali in Toronto, and another pair from the lovely James featuring this shot and this shot.

Yesterday I got a NEW Siamese Fighting Fish. (Strawberry was mine so I was not happy when he died.) The new one is called Opal. He is very pretty with big fins. He is blue/green/red. And he’s very active. I feed him these weird “bloodworm” things. You break off a square (probably the one you used yesterday) from the big block and waggle it round until 6 or 7 worms fall off, then BANG! 5 seconds later they’re all gone! I have this REALLY REALLY BRIGHT multicoloured gravel in there and a pot plant which is a little too big for the tank.

The Friday the 13th of June, Strawberry the Siamese fighting fish was euthanised.  He had white fungal growth all over, including his eyes.  He was buried next to the possum on a rainy night of Sunday 15th of June.  May he rest in peace.

Bunny Mansion

Even though Pepper has been living in a two storey hutch, we had been thinking about incorporating the fenced run to the hutch, so that it can go for a run, or a hop, around whenever she pleases (yes, the vet has confirmed that Pepper is a girl bunny).

So last weekend we bought an extra roll of wire fencing, shaped the previously separate rabbit run to a rectangle, added a roof, and attached it to one side of the hutch, which we’ve cut open to allow for access.  Voila!  We’ve increase the bunny’s real estate four times.

Pepper is happy, very happy.
