The lawnmower’s starter cord snapped a couple of weeks ago. This was the perfect opportunity to buy a good ratchet set. The last one was poorly made, packaged and doesn’t reverse. This time a Stanley ratchet set was acquired to do the job, and it did the job with ease. Ah… there’s nothing quite like using well made tools.
The lawnmower’s starter cord was fixed and the lawn was subsequently mowed.

The weekend before last, Boo spotted a huge Blue-tongue lizard on the path beyond the back deck. It was a good three inches across its back. I haven’t seen one that big in years. The two boy-cats were giving it a wide berth, making me wonder whether they’d already had an encounter with it. Having been disturbed by our stomping out to the clothesline, he slowly slithered back to his home under the deck. At Polendino’s suggestion, we named him “Butters”.
Yesterday we found that we had a smaller, younger cousin living in the front yard. This time we managed to get a photo. And this time it was the girl-cat giving the lizard a wide berth. Meet Kenny…

Even though Pepper has been living in a two storey hutch, we had been thinking about incorporating the fenced run to the hutch, so that it can go for a run, or a hop, around whenever she pleases (yes, the vet has confirmed that Pepper is a girl bunny).
So last weekend we bought an extra roll of wire fencing, shaped the previously separate rabbit run to a rectangle, added a roof, and attached it to one side of the hutch, which we’ve cut open to allow for access. Voila! We’ve increase the bunny’s real estate four times.
Pepper is happy, very happy.

Until now, we’ve been storing two bikes on the back deck under a tarp, and the kids’ three bikes in the horrible shed in the middle of the back yard.
Chris the wonder-builder came over this week and turned half of the carport into a secure lockup that we can use for the bikes, as well as the mower, whipper-snipper and a bunch of tools.
While he was at it, he replaced the tumble-down fence on the other side of the house as well.
Both are built from hardwood, and will age to a lovely silver-grey.

I dug my first ever grave for the first ever dead possum in this place. It was a young one too. Probably an adolescent. I said a few words afterwards and back filled it with the soil from the potted but slug eaten potatoes. I suspect it was one of the cats. Hmm…

Last night I dreamt I was mowing the front lawn.
