Paint & Polish 29 April, 2010

Adam The Painter and his boys have done a fantastic job of painting the inside of the extension, and then today the sanders managed to turn the dusty, grimy floor into the gleaming thing you see here…

Dining room floor

Another (light) sand and another coat tomorrow, and it will dry to a lovely satin finish, like the rest of the house. Then we have to wait a week for it to cure before we move any heavy furniture out there.

Let there be light! 20 April, 2010

The electricians finished today. The fusebox has been moved to make way for the new front door and, most importantly, there is now light in the extension!

Note also the beautiful cornices (that were put up by men on stilts), door-jambs and skirtings. There are doors too.

All this means that we’re ready for the painting and floor sanding. That should take another week-ish, and then we move into the back half so Chris The Builder can start on the front. Woohoo!

We now have a significant floor-bump in the middle of the dining room, and a nascent one in Polendino’s room as well.
I’m trying not to stress about it.

A bunch of photos of all the new rooms and the grampa flat (with the exception of the grampa flat’s main room, which I forgot to get a shot of).

Spotty house

The back of the house, with the plastered “blue board”. That’s the studio on the left, and the dining room on the right.
The exterior will be finished with render.

Dining room

Dining room. It’s huge – 4.5m wide and 7m long.

Studio

This is going to be a fantastic room – a combined studio and guest room with one wall of storage, and a big desk the full width of the windows. It’s 4.1m x 2.8m.

Boo's bedroom

Boo’s bedroom. Bigger than it looks – 4.8m x 2.1m.

Dino's bedroom

Polendino’s bedroom – the same shape and size as Boo’s.

Spotty Grampa flat

The grampa flat.

Grampa flat bathroom

The grampa flat bathroom - 1.4m x 3.8m. The shower will be the full width of the end of the room, and the loo will sit right under the window.

Grampa flat bedroom

The grampa flat bedroom - 2.7m x 3.4m.

We primed the maple and glass doors that lead out from the dining room to the back yard this arvo.

When we removed the plastic sleeves that had been left of the doors in the knowledge that we’re busy people and would take a couple of weeks to get around to the task, we discovered stickers on the inside of the glass:

SAFETY GLASS
CLEAR TEMPERED GLASS

Oops.

The external blue board cladding is done, but I just want to show you the beautiful Cypress Pine floor boards laid for our new dinning room. I had a good smell of the boards when I gave our builder a hand bringing them inside on the previous night. It smells fantastic. Apparently the smell also drives termites away. Suits me just fine.

Since this photograph the granny flat is also floored.

Now that the floors are in I am enjoying walking around and getting a sense of the spaces.

While we were holidaying in Melbourne last week, the moles came and visited our house.

Thankfully, our builder (Chris) was there to document the damage with his mobile phone and send us the pictures.

This is the back of the house:

And this is the granpa flat:
